Ductile iron grates are the heavy-duty end of the ACO KlassikDrain K100 grate range. Cast from ductile iron to ASTM A536-84 Grade 65-45-12 and load rated per EN 1433, the family runs from Class C commercial duty (56,202 lbs) up to Class E industrial duty (134,885 lbs) — the highest rating offered in the 100 series and suited to industrial areas, gas stations, and light commercial forklift traffic.

The family spans practical slotted and longitudinal patterns as well as the decorative Wave and Mosaic designs, so demanding load requirements never have to come at the expense of appearance. Every grate fits ACO Drain K100 galvanized-rail, KS100 stainless-rail, and H100K-8 channels and secures with ACO's boltless DrainLok or QuickLok locking systems; once the grates (and QuickLok bar, where used) are removed, there is uninterrupted access to the trench for cleaning and maintenance.

The Type 478Q (ACO part number 03314) is the 0.5 meter ADA-compliant longitudinal ductile iron grate of the family, cast from ductile iron to ASTM A536-84 Grade 65-45-12 and rated to EN 1433 Load Class E at 134,885 lbs (1,856-2,785 PSI) — the highest rating in the K100 grate range, industrial duty for K100, KS100, and H100K-8 runs. Its longitudinal slots open no wider than 0.28" (7 mm) and deliver 22.5 square inches (145.16 sq cm) of intake area per half-meter grate, and the grate carries ADA Compliant, Bicycle Safe, Heel-Resistant, Anti-Slip (BPN > 24), and LEED credentials. The "Q" in Type 478Q stands for ACO's patented QuickLok boltless locking system: the grate stud push-fits into the stainless spring clip of a QuickLok locking bar, sold separately (channel bar 02899, Series 900 catch basin bar 98717). At 12.8 lbs per half-meter section, the grate still releases and lifts out easily whenever the trench needs to be inspected or cleaned.
